2022 Head of The Charles

On a beautiful October Saturday in Boston, 4 men from CYC and their coxswain stormed down the course at the Head of the Charles regatta, the largest rowing regatta in the world.  Starting in the 18th position out of 20 competitors, the CYC 4+ passed boat after boat to end up 4th in the field, only 3 seconds behind the 3rd place finisher.  This is particularly impressive for two reasons.  First, there is a significant advantage to start toward the front of the pack since you don’t have to row around other boats.  Second, although slower boats are supposed to yield to faster boats, our cox had 2 situations where slower boats delayed in yielding, costing CYC valuable seconds.  Congratulations to the rowers!!

CYC’s participation in the HOCR is growing year by year, as is their success.  In 2021, 8 CYC rowers competed.  This year, the number was 12.  Rowers are already starting to plan for 2023 and it’s looking like there will be even more CYC members looking to get into the race.
