Catawba Yacht Club Competes at 2026 NC Rowing Championships

Catawba Yacht Club (CYC) delivered a strong performance at the 2026 North Carolina Rowing Championships, with a small but dedicated group of athletes heading to High Point, NC.
With temperatures climbing throughout the day, much of the regatta became a balance between racing hard and finding whatever shade was available between events. Despite the conditions, approximately a dozen CYC members showed up ready to race, support one another, and represent the club well.
🥇 Gold Medal Performance
The highlight of the day came in the Men’s Open 1x, where Vlad Avramenko powered to a first-place finish. In a competitive field, Vlad’s race stood out as a decisive and well-executed performance, earning Catawba its top podium spot of the regatta.
🥉 Bronze Medal Finish
CYC also reached the podium in the Men’s Masters 4x, securing a third-place finish. The crew showed strong cohesion and resilience, particularly in the heat, to earn a well-deserved bronze medal. Vlad also earned 3rd in the Men's Masters 1x under 50 category.
Strong Racing Across Events
Beyond the podium finishes, Catawba athletes competed in several events and remained competitive throughout the day. Notably, the club finished fourth in the Mixed Masters 2x (>50), just outside medal contention. Other entries included a Women's Masters 2x, Men's Masters 2x, a Men's Masters 1x >50,  and Women's Masters 4x.
More Than Racing
In addition to competing, CYC one club member served as a referee for the event, an important contribution that helps keep regattas running smoothly and fairly.
A Day of Grit and Community
While the medal count tells part of the story, the day was equally defined by perseverance, teamwork, and community. For a team of roughly twelve athletes, the results reflect both quality and commitment from CYC rowers.
